In all honesty, it is less of a Rock Tour and more of a field trip, but without a field… so really, it is just a ‘trip’!
But what a trip, as a select group of super keen GRM geologists (!) were given the opportunity to visit Burlington House in central London, home of The Geological Society of London.
Founded in 1807, The Society is the oldest geological society in the world with a current worldwide membership of over 12,000. They pride themselves on being world-leading communicators of the Earth sciences through scholarly publishing, library and information services, cutting-edge scientific conferences, education activities, and outreach to the public. They also provide impartial scientific information and evidence to support policy-making and public debate about the challenges facing humanity.
Fourteen of our own GRM ‘rock stars’ took a trip to Burlington House as part of their CPD training, and to better understand the pathway and importance of becoming a Chartered Geologist. Our group was led by Geoff Beckett, one of the directors at GRM, a Chartered Geologist and a Geological Society scrutineer (a member of the advisory panel that reviews and recommends chartership applications).
GRM runs an accredited Geological Society training scheme for staff interested in gaining their Chartership, and the new GRM employees will be encouraged and supported in their future professional training and accreditation pathways.
