January continues to throw up surprises on so many levels. And we recently found one surprise at quite a low level on development land in Leicestershire.
Specifically, an old back-filled well which was discovered on the site during demolition works. GRM were given the task of decommissioning the well in line with Environment Agency guidance, plus the design of a well cap.
We used rotary drilling to fully constrain the extent of the structure, which turned out to be 15m deep and 1m in diameter. A structural grout was used to backfill the well, followed by the installation of the GRM designed well cap.
Just another week in the ‘office’ for the design and geotechnical teams, and a great example of the collaborative approach across different GRM departments to find solutions for our clients.
